Killer birds!

Myself and The Birds

What a day! Ok, it wasnt quite as exciting as it sounds, but it was still a great day. The bf’s parents are down on holiday, so they’ve been doing touristy things, so I suggested feeding the squirrels in the Company Gardens, and a walk through the musuem. You cant come to CT and not go to the musuem!

So it was decided, and we made a quick detour to buy two bags of unsalted peanuts for the squirrels (there are lots of them after all). Walking through the Gardens, it was pretty soon that we spotted our first (and very inquisitive) squirrel. My bf’s mom’s first attempt ended with her tossing a few peanuts on the floor, at the squirrel who sat calmly a mere metre away.

Tsk tsk, these non-CT people! Ok ok, I’m only kidding, not everyone knows how to feed the squirrels if they’ve never done it before – they are wild after all (the squirrels, not the parents). Actually, these guys (again, the squirrels, not the parents) are so tame they literally climb into your lap to get a peanut (haha imaging a parent climbing into your lap for a peanut…haha!). And they’re so cute and soft (need I say it? The squirrels, not the parents…ok that was the last time, I promise)! So, next squirrel in, everyone was successfully feeding the squirrels out of hand … and lap.

Then along came The Birds. These pigeons are so demanding for peanuts (not that they should be eating any – they cant digest them) that they’ll land on your hand if you hold out a flat palm with peanuts in it. Next thing you know, SWOOP!! in lands about 4 pigeons, all fighting for a spot on your arm. You cringe and cry out as their razor sharp claws pinch and scratch you as they continue to push each other out the way to get closer to your palm. I dont remember the birds being so demanding??

Anyway, after eventually realising that if you just drop your arm, they have nothing to cling to…SWOOP! in zooms a pigeon which promply clings to your shirt!! The gall of these Birds!! No more just pecking around your feet, oh no, they swoop, dive, zoom and cling! One even landed inside my bag of peanuts!! Inside!!!

Attack of the Killer Birds

Ok, I write all this like its a terrible experience, but these birds actually had us laughing (until the stinging sensation started in my arm) as they entertained us. We even tried to lead them into the musuemwith us, but that’s where they drew the line (the birds, not the musuem).

Not much to say about the musuem, except they’re currently holding a wildlife photography exhibitition which has some amazing photos! Really inspiring stuff! They even have a catagory for “10 yrs and under”…what those 10 year olds are doing with cameras better than mine is beyond me but anyway! Pout. So, do try to visit before the exhibition is up (check the site for details). And take your time reading everything, there are some really interesting stories behind each photo!

Sneak Peek: Family Shoot

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

So during my holiday in PE, I was commissioned to do a photoshoot for my future in-laws and their families, which of course I did (yes, I took a while to edit them). The day was a sunny one, with some cloud cover, which I do like as it adds a little detail to the photos and makes the sky more interesting (ironically none of the photos posted have clouds in them). It also provides partial shade so faces arent completely burnt out.

The shoot was fun, though I was a little nervous…being family ‘n all that. Especially future family. Eek, talk about pressure! Screw up the shoot and well things might not be so hot in the marriage department. Haha ok I’m only joking about that part…*gulp*. No really, I’m kidding. Hehe.

All the same, the shoot was commenced with shots of tequila – yes, I wish all my shoots could start like that! I think some of the family were a little nervous, but I think things got underway and ran smoothly quite quickly.

Anyway, here are some sneak preview shots…(feel free to leave comments):

Overall I’m happy with them, but wrangling large families is not really one of my strong points hehe.

A change is as good as a holiday

So thanks to everyone who’s followed me from Blogger to Wordpress, your support means a lot!  There are many different things in WP that Blogger didnt have, and some things Blogger had that I miss in WP.

The main thing I miss is my Following option. In blogger, when I logged into my dashboard, there was a list of blogs I was following. I’d enter in a feed and it’d show up in order of latest update like so:

Now, with WP, I dont have that anymore :( And I’m sad. But I’m getting used to WP, so not all is lost…

However, if anyone knows of a “following” tool for WP….please tell me! I miss my easy-to-find updates and I read a lot of blogs! Help!

So, a few may remember a short while ago I wanted to migrate to Wordpress but confusion reigned and I ended up staying with Blogger. Well, things have since changed and now I present to you: tails.co.za!!

This will be my new blog home, powered by Wordpress.org and I hope you’ll continue to follow my blog from there!

Over the next week or so, you might see things changing…this is just me customising (yay!) my new blog so please bear with me.

Thanks everyone, for the support!! See you at tails.co.za

Bonnie, Badger & Enya

Today was spent photographing a friend’s pack of dogs: Bonnie, Badger & Enya.

It was a hot, sunny day, so location proved to be bit of a hassle as there was very few spots of shade for us to play but we did what we could, the dogs taking frequent water breaks (which I later knelt in all the dribbled puddles. Sigh. All in a day’s work hehe).

The dogs were great, very well trained, if not too well trained. They never took their eyes off their beloved, but still gave me some awesome shots. Enya is the most recent addition to the pack, having being rescued from DARG. She’s around 6 years old and has the most adorable temperment and really landed with her bum in the butter with her family!

So, before you all die of impatience (um, well I’d like to believe the anticipation is that strong ok!), photos:
