Dishwasher Blues

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

About a month ago the bf and I bought a dishwasher. I can hear some of you saying, “welcome to the wonderful world of technology!” or “sheesh, only now?” but let me tell you, I always hated dishwashers because when I was younger, it was my sister’s duty to pack the dishwasher and mine to unpack. Unfortunately the dishwasher always needed unpacking at the most inopportune times. Like when I was just about to watch TV, or just about to read a book, or go out or something. Mom was pretty strict that the dishwasher was not to sit with dishes inside it for days, so it had to be unpacked within an hour or so of it being done.

Anyway. So finally I caved and said, “ok, let’s buy a dishwasher” and we did. I can happily say I’m a changed woman! I love the dishwasher! And the best part, I get to pack it and the bf unpacks it! Yay! For weeks now, I’ve only had to do a select few dishes, as some things we dont put in the dishwasher. For example, knives from our Nikkai Titanium set cant go in because the gold stripe will fade off, as well as our highball glasses as the patterns are fading. But it’s been bliss, not having to wash dishes. Pure bliss.

Until it broke. Yes, not even a month old and it leaks water onto the floor. Its not the tap, we checked, it’s definately the dishwasher. So now, we cant use it because water is coming in from the tap but not entering the washer itself. The good news is they’re coming on Monday or Tuesday to look at it, since it’s still under warranty but the bad news is, as I type, I try not to think about the load of dishes we had to unload from the dishwasher that are now sitting in my kitchen waiting to be washed. Yes, you’re probably pulling a face and saying, “eww!” but I just cant bring myself to go back to washing dishes. To think, I survived years without a dishwasher, but now a week of not having one sucks!

It just sucks! I’ve become spoilt haha.

LOL it appears I was the only voter this week. Ah well, the next poll is about your Christmas shopping…please take a peek and vote.

Life has been so hectic lately, my new job draws near as the New Year approaches…and my poor Orlith has been so very sick with Head Tilt, but by the grace of God has pulled through! It’s been a very stressful festive season for me as I’ve been nursing her back to health with Baytril for the infection and Prednisone for the swelling of her one eye (from the infection underneath it). She also stopped eating for a while, so it was mashed potatoes, pronutro and rice for dinner and breakfast: all soft things to help keep her nourished.

On top of that, I went away for a much needed weekend (pics later) and V kept my babies for me while I was away. When I went to collect them, on the way home Orly suffered from heat stroke and after a frantic drive at 100km all the way (please dont let me have any speeding fines!) and a frantic phonecall, the bf had a bowl of tepid water at the ready when I got home. After an hour or two of keeping her in water, syringing Energade into her mouth for rehydration, she finally recovered but the head tilt was so pronounced and she couldnt even keep herself upright and kept falling over. It was so scary to watch and I felt so helpless, all I could do was cry and pray that she’d recover.

There are also two litters I’ve put myself down for next year, the mom is a wheaten burmese and the dad is a black eyed cream. They’ll be ready for adoption at the end of Jan. The next litter is due at the end of Dec, and are Husky rats, like my Ramoth was. I’m still indecisive about this litter, as I’m not sure if I’m ready for another Husky just yet, but I’ll see how I feel next year.

Christmas is almost here and I still have much to do. A few gifts left to buy, and then everything needs wrapping! I dont know what happened this year, but normally by now I’m done with gift buying and wrapping. Hell, usually I’m done by Dec 5th! Ah well, hopefully all will be done in time and I will destress soon.

And finally, my car repairs have been approved by the offender’s insurance, and my Bluebetty will be getting repaired soon. Yay! I was in another minor car accident the other day when someone drove into the back of me in bumper-to-bumper traffic. My bumper is dented and I had a bit of whiplash but I honestly have no time or energy to claim on their insurance. The guy was very nice about it though, and his car needs more work than mine, which he said he was happy about since it was his fault.

And that’s about it. Hopefully I’ll make another post before or on Christmas Day, but if I dont, please have a wonderful and safe Christmas!!

Someday at Christmas…

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

This Christmas song by Stevie Wonder really warms my heart and gives me a lump in my throat. Please do listen to the YouTube video-song!

Maybe, just maybe, one day we will indeed have a Christmas where no one is hungry or alone….

“Someday At Christmas”

Someday at Christmas men won’t be boys
Playing with bombs like kids play with toys
One warm December our hearts will see
A world where men are free

Someday at Christmas there’ll be no wars
When we have learned what Christmas is for
When we have found what life’s really worth
There’ll be peace on earth

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas we’ll see a Man
No hungry children, no empty hand
One happy morning people will share
Our world where people care

Someday at Christmas there’ll be no tears
All men are equal and no men have fears
One shinning moment my heart ran away
From our world today

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas man will not fail
Take hope because your love will prevail
Someday a new world that we can start
With hope in every heart

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime
Someday at Christmastime

Which is YOUR favourite (movie)?

Harry Potter (67%, 4 Votes)
Twilight (33%, 2 Votes)

Total Voters: 6

Last I checked, the votes were sitting on 3 votes, so nice to see 3 more people got their vote on before it closed! :D

Sorry for my delayed post, I’ve been sick as a dog (I’ve never really understood that saying?) since last Wednesday. This meant I lost my voice, slept all day, cried out in pain when I swallowed or coughed (sore throat – felt like I was swallowing glass), blew my nose til it was raw (actually, thats still happening), and eventually coughing up blood. Yes. Charming. Went to the doc who diagnosed me with a Septic Post Nasal Drip (mmmm, lovely hey!) and gave me some antibiotics. I’m a homeopathic lover, so I feel like a cheat using antibiotics, but yay for feeling a little better. Nose is drying up, throat is not so sore, and while there still is blood, I’m told it’ll go away when my throat heals.

In NaNo news, I havent written ANYTHING since last week!! I’m so far behind and I have so much to catch up on!! I’m supposed to be at 40k by tonight *sob*. Wish me luck in catching up! I’m currently on 31742…eep!

And finally, I’d like to point your attention to a super-talented friend of mine, FXMorph, who so kindly drew a beautiful rat-girl background for me (pic inset, click for larger version), and I LOVE it! I have to seriously control myself from begging for a few more in different poses hehe but seriously, I was feeling so ill and down these past few days, and this talented guy cheered me right up! So thank you, FXMorph! *hugs*

Full November

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

November is looking to be a pretty full month for me!

I’ll be receiving news that I’m waiting for, more on that when I know, I’ll be attending the Canon Wild Roadshow and the Lenovo Picnic. Of course, there will also be OC in Nov which I’ll be attending. And last but most definately not least, NaNoWriMo begins this Sunday!

I’m super amped for Nano now that I have a general plot…I’ve also recruited a few people to participate with me, which will be great for moral and encouragement! Among the few are EvilBelgian and PixieDust.

My loaches are starting to be less timid, and I can watch them as I sit here and type at the office. They’re so interesting and quite often I get rather distracted and watch them for ages. I’ve tried taking photos of them, but they’re still too shy for that.

A while back I might have mentioned something about my car being reversed into. Well, after months of waiting for the sheriff to deliver the papers to the defendant, they finally got some results back to me. Apparently, this guy is still a momma’s boy, lives at home and has no attachable assets. In layman’s terms, they cant reposess anything from him to pay for the damages he inflicted on my car. Needless to say I’m not happy with this verdict and will keep fighting it.

I’m also going to start learning the harmonica soon! Going to ye ol’ harmonica shop this week to check out some behbehs! How exciting!

Well that’s about all I can update on at this point. Have a great week! I’m craving sushi, so hopefully will be doing that sometime soon again!
