Before you send…
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009Before you send that chain mail that just arrived in your inbox, check that its true. So many chainmails are thoughtlessly sent out into the world to waste bandwidth, all because one person didnt think to check if it was true or not.
Usually I get them with a line like “I wasnt sure if this is true, but thought you should know”. If you didnt know it was true, what stopped you from Googling it? Surely one cannot be too lazy on the internet?? I didnt think that was even possible.
Dont get me wrong, I find some chain mails interesting, but it bugs me that people dont want to educate themselves regarding the truth. I guess its easier to stay dumb and press send, than to actually source the chainmail and educate themselves a little (even if they send it out afterwards – as some are worthwhile knowing – at least they know what they’re sending out).
The following sites are for checking the truth on chainmails, in particular:
Snopes.com (this is the one I use)
Truth or Fiction
Hoax-Slayer
On a side note, my Gizmo went in to the vet this morning to get some tests run on the various lumps and bumps she’s grown over the past year or so, and I miss her so much. Its horrible to watch the vet lead your baby away and to watch them go wrenches one’s heart like you cannot imagine. Even though I’ll have her back this afternoon, its still heartbreaking to think of her in the cage, all alone, and on such a cold day too! At least she has her blankie…
