All About the Dash Dog Treat Maker

It’s no surprise that Americans love spoiling their pets. Recent surveys found that more than 50% of pet owners admit to spoiling their pets 24/7 with birthday parties, holidays, and “Gotcha Day” celebrations.

Throwing your dog a birthday or “Gotcha Day” party can be fun. You can invite all your other doggy friends and have a day of zoomies, snacks, and fun. But how can you make every day memorable for your furry best friend?

I introduce to you the Dash Dog Treat Maker. If you’re interested in creating deliciously delectable biscuits for your pet, keep reading as I tell you all about the Dash Dog Treat Maker.

What Is the Dash Dog Treat Maker?

The Dash Dog Treat Maker is an innovative device to help you create tasty dog biscuits in the comfort of your own home. Designed much like a waffle maker, it has a flip-top lid that, when opened, reveals eight bone-shaped cutouts ready to be filled.

It’s incredibly straightforward to use, so it’s excellent for family members of all ages. You pre-heat the device and fill each dog bone cutout with the batter of your choice. Then close the lid and wait for the biscuits to bake. Baking time varies depending on the batter, but the biscuits typically take around 5 minutes.

It has a non-stick coating, which makes extracting the biscuits easy. In addition, have a wire rack handy, so you can leave them to cool while you make the next round. I know Bonito hates waiting between batches!

Make Your Homemade Treats High Value

The benefit of making your own dog treats at home is that you have complete control of the ingredients. You can make the biscuits into everyday, healthy snacks or add a little indulgence in the form of ingredients that dogs aren’t usually supposed to get in their diet, such as cheese.

What are high-value treats, you ask? Well, high-value treats are treats that your dog, like Bonito, only gets some of the time. Using Dash Dog Treat Maker recipes, you can create great treats for use during training or as a treat when you’ve got to leave your pet alone for a while.

When your pup doesn’t get the treat often, they place greater emphasis on the value of the treat. Once they know about the high-value treats, most will work extra hard to receive another one – I know Bonito does!

Dash Dog Treat Maker Recipe: Bacon And Cheddar Treats

The biscuits from this dash dog treat maker recipe should ideally be given in moderation, as it contains cheese. Cheese is not toxic to dogs; however, many dogs are lactose intolerant as they lack the digestive enzyme lactase. This recipe yields 11 treats.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats
  • 1/2 Cup Shredded Mild Cheddar
  • 4 Strips Crispy Bacon, Crumbled
  • 1 Large Egg, Beaten

Directions:

  1. Heat the Express Dash Dog Treat Maker
  2. In a food processor, pulse oats until coarsely chopped. Add the cheese and bacon and pulse again until finely chopped. Add egg and mix until dough holds together. Add flour and mix until a soft dough forms. Feel free to use your hands if it’s easier.
  3. Lightly coat the surface of the treat maker with a non-stick cooking spray.
  4. Add the dough batter (about 3 Tbsp) to each cutout and close the lid.
  5. Leave to bake for 6 minutes, gently turn biscuits using silicone tongs, and bake for another 4 minutes (or until golden brown and hardened).
  6. Remove biscuits from the Express Dash Dog Treat Maker using silicone tongs.
  7. Place treats on a wire rack to cool.
  8. Repeat steps 3 to 7 until all dough has been used.

Store these treats in an airtight container for 3-4 days. I wanted Bonito to get a nice crunch from the bacon in these biscuits, so I only pulsed the cheese and bacon for a few short bursts.

Using the Treat Maker: Tips and Tricks

A few tips and tricks can help you make perfect dog treats every time. Here are a few of my best ones for you:

  • Whenever possible, use a piping bag to pipe the batter in for a smoother finish
  • Depending on your batter thickness, you may need to play around with how much each cutout is filled if you don’t want undersized or oversized biscuits
  • Remember, dogs can’t have everything we can, so always use sugar-free or dog-safe ingredients whenever possible
  • So you don’t damage the non-stick coating, always use silicone tongs to handle the treats while they’re baking
  • Don’t worry if you mess up; your pup will still love them, and you can make it correctly the next time around
